The Mercedes-Benz Ponton models originate from the previous brand “Daimler-Benz”. Also known as today's "Mercedes-Benz Group AG", or as its former aliases such as "Daimler-Benz, DaimlerChrysler or Daimler", this brand was well known for its luxury cars. The Ponton models are a series of luxury cars from Daimler-Benz that were produced after the 2nd World War. Production of this model, the 220SE, ran from 1958 to 1960. This model fell under the chassis code 'W128'. These were supplied with a 6-cylinder in the form of a sedan, convertible or coupe (the least of which were produced). The E in 220SE stands for “Einspritzer”, which means fuel injection in German.
This six-in-line injection engine has a displacement of 2.2 litres. The engine produces 116 HP. This is coupled to a 4-speed manual transmission with steering gear, making this 1 of 102. The engine runs and functions very nicely. This Mercedes-Benz is also equipped with independent wheel suspension, which provides more comfort while driving. The original steel rims come with beautiful Mercedes-Benz hubcaps that complete the look.
Mercedes was known for its luxurious versions. This is no exception with this 'Sindelfingen Werks' 220SE. The beautiful black paint gives this Ponton, together with its red leather interior and the white steering wheel, a nice classic look. The interior has a beautiful Palisander wood dashboard, which is included with an oil pressure gauge and a water temperature gauge. What else can be found in the interior are the original red velvet carpets that are still in a beautiful condition. The windscreen heating works excellently. The same applies to the beautiful classic Becker radio installation, which is still in good condition. The excellent quality of the chrome work completes this car. The original red leather upholstery still has a beautiful and luxurious appearance. The left front seat is included with adjustable lumbar support which can be adjusted with the lumbar support pump. This is again one of the many luxurious aspects of the interior.
In terms of documentation of this car, there is a considerable number present. The following named points are present among others:
- A FIVA / Deuvet Identity Card
- A full valuation report
- Rich history
- Original manual
- Service booklet
- Parts catalog
Overall, this classic is in beautiful condition for its age. Due to the low production number, this model is certainly a worthy investment.
